Snoopy Island, a limestone outcrop 100 meters offshore from Al Aqah Beach, became a protected marine zone in 2015. The 90-minute drive from Dubai crosses the Emirates Road through date palm plantations and the gravel plains of the interior. Most snorkeling Fujairah from Dubai tours depart before dawn to reach the coast by 8:00 AM, when the sea lies flat and green turtles surface to breathe near the reef line. Dive operators based at Sandy Beach and Le Méridien Al Aqah maintain equipment lockers and rinse stations, issuing masks, fins, and snorkels that meet European safety standards. Fujairah's reefs represent the northernmost limit of several Indo-Pacific coral species. Bleaching events in 2017 and 2020 damaged portions of the shallow reef, but recovery rates have surprised researchers—branching corals regrew 12 centimeters per year in monitored plots. The underwater landscape shifts with depth: sandy channels at three meters give way to coral bommies at five, then basalt boulders draped in soft corals at eight.
